Playing with fabric!

This is the first thing I made with a gorgeous fabric bundle I purchased not too long ago, it has been a very long time since I made anything from fabric. Sewing a pair of trouser hems up is just not the same! I decided to start small to get used to sewing again, so decided to make myself a pretty pincushion, I think it turned out quite nice :) of course I had to add a bit of crochet, Attic24 rose (slight change as I added and extra big petal) and leaves. May make these for others in the future.
I also made a teeny owl pincushion (will add pic later as don't have one uploaded on pc yet), my daughter loved it so I made her a much larger version to sit on her desk, thinks she is rather cute!

 Plan to make other things soon, and one day I will make memory quilts for my children :) just need to get the hang of my old but new sewing machine (it as they say round my way, goes like the clappers, if you get too heavy footed!), Hope you enjoyed my fabric bits n bobs :)

Daisy Stripe Blanket

This was my latest make, the daisy stripe blanket :)
It was really easy and quite quick to make, the stitch pattern is "lemon peel" a motif block from the book 200 crochet blocks for blankets throws and afghans by Jan Eaton (link under books i love tab), and the daisy pattern is from the magazine Mollie makes, believe it was issue 24.
It was made using various DK yarns, though mainly Stylecraft special DK, and hook size 4 mm/G/6.
It is now with it's new owner getting lots of snuggle time :)

Bobble Heart Pattern

So I'm finally sharing my bobble heart pattern! :)

I used a 4 mm/G/6 crochet hook.
The yarn pictured above (awful photo but it's the only one i have right now) was a UK baby DK weight in baby pink.
You can use any yarn and hook size, but i would recommend DK and Aran personally as I'm not sure how well the bobbles will 'stick' out with lighter yarn's.


I will be using UK crochet terms throughout, I will try and make a US version at a later date.
Crochet terms used are as follows
sts - stitches
ch - chain:
dc - double crochet
tr - treble crochet
MB - make bobble
F/O - fasten off

MB = make 4 open tr in same stitch leaving 5 loops on hook, draw yarn through all 5 loops. So in the MB stitch you will do as follows, yarn over, hook into next stitch, yarn over (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through two loops leaving 2 loops on hook, yarn over, hook into same stitch, yarn over pull through two loops, 3 loops on hook, continue as above till you have 5 loops on hook after the last open treble and then yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on hook. One bobble complete!

This pattern makes a square roughly 6 x 6 depending on yarn and hook size and of course how you crochet, your's may be bigger or smaller.

So to start ch 28,
Row 1 - dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in each stitch across to end, ch 1, turn. (27 dc) ch 1 does not count as 1st dc here or throughout)
Row 2 - dc across till end, ch 1, turn (27 dc)
Rows 3 -6 - Repeat Row 2. (27 dc)
Row 7 - 1 dc into next 13 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 13 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 8 - Repeat row 2.
Row 9 - 1 dc into next 11 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 3 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 11 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 10 - Repeat row 2.
Row 11 - 1 dc into next 9 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 7 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 9 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 12 - Repeat row 2.
Row 13 - 1 dc into next 7 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 11 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 7 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 14 - Repeat row 2.
Row 15 - 1 dc into next 5 sts,MB, 1 dc into next 15 sts, MB 1 dc into next 5 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 16 - Repeat row 2.
Row 17 - 1 dc into next 3 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 19 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 3 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 18 - Repeat row 2.
Row 19 - 1 dc into next 2 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 21 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 2 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 20 - Repeat row 2.
Row 21 - 1 dc into next 2 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 21 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 2 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 22 - Repeat row 2.
Row 23 - 1 dc into next 2 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 10 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 10 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 2 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 24 - Repaet row 2.
Row 25 - 1 dc into next 3 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 7 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 3 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 7 sts, MB, 1 dc into next 3 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 26 - Repeat row 2.
Row 27 - 1 dc into next 5 sts, MB, 1 dc, MB, 1 dc, MB, 1 dc into next 7 sts, MB, 1 dc, MB, 1 dc, MB, 1 dc into next 5 sts, ch 1, turn.
Rows 28 - 32 - Repeat row 2, on row 32 do not ch 1, F/O and weave in ends.

Adventures with yarn :)

 Hello and welcome to my blog. I plan to write about my craft projects as they are started and finished as well as ideas that pop in my head (which always seems to happen when trying to sleep!). I'm rather new to crafting, i picked up a crochet hook for the first time a few months ago and haven't stopped since! I also knit, though nothing other than easy patterns as I'm still learning, even though I learnt to knit the basics years ago! I also want to try quilting, have a glorious idea for a memory quilt (two actually) for my children. Currently enjoying creating character hats to keep little (and big) ears lovely and warm :) I'm also attempting to make my first puppet! (usually have several things on the go, cant seen to help myself when an idea pops in my head haha). Anyway will post more later, will add pics too!
